WILL OF GEORGE STERREY,
LONGHOPE, GLOUCESTERSHIRE, 1771

 
I GEORGE STERRY of the Parish of Longhope in the County of Gloucester xxxx—Rope—Maker being far advanced in years and considering the uncertainty of life Tho am at present of sound and dispossing mind memory and understanding Do therefore make this my last will and testament in manner and form following Revoking all other wills heretofore by me made.

I give devise and bequeath unto my eldest son RICHARD STERRY the house wherein I now live with the barn stable and out buildings thereunto, belonging together with the little orchards thereto adjoining part in the parish of Huntley and part in the parish of Longhope during the lease and paying a proportionable chief rent for the same. Item. I give and devise unto my son JOHN STERRY the house wherein he the said JOHN STERRY now live lately erected by me during the lease and paying a proportionable chief rent for the same. Item. I give and devise unto my son THOMAS STERRY the little orchard near adjoining to where he now live during the lease and paying a proportionable chief rent for the same. Item. I give and devise unto my eldest daughter JANE now wife of THOMAS WOODHOUSE and to my second daughter HANNAH now wife of ROGER PLAYSTER and to my third daughter MARY now wife of WILLIAM HOOK two guineas each in all six pounds six shillings to be paid to them by my Executor herein after named within three months after my decease Item. I will and devise that my household goods be equally divided between all my children All the rest of my chattels credits and assets not before by me devised and bequeathed I give unto my son RICHARD STERRY and do nominate constitute and appoint him Executor hereof and do require him the said RICHARD STERRY to pay all my just debts legacies and my funeral expenses which I request may be after a decent manner out of the promisses above hereby given and bequeathed to him. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and soul this 18th day of July one thousand seven hundred and sixty two.

Signed sealed published and declared y the Testator GEORGE STERRY as his ast Will and Testament in our presence nd signed by us as witnesses in hispresence and in the presence of each other.
