WILL OF JOHN STERRY,
LONDON, 1750

 

In the Name of God Amen
I John Sterry Citizen and Baker of London being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and fform following that is to say first I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buryed in the parish vault of Saint Mary Le Bow in Cheapside London at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named and as for touching the disposition of all my temporal estate I give and dispose thereof as followeth first I will that all my debts and ffuneral charges shall be paid and discharged also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Sterry the ffurniture of one room of goods consisting of household conveniencys also I give and part the whole in three parts to be divided by my executor hereinafter named of all my personal estate of money or moneysworth consisting of bonds bills or stock in any of the publick ffunds now subsisting and shall be due to me at the time of my decease to her her executors administrators and assigns for her and their own proper use and benefit as soon as possible may be done after my decease by my executor as aforesaid also I give and bequeath unto my nephew and neice Thomas Sterry and Ffrances Sterry another third part the whole to be divided as aforesaid by my executor of all my personal estate of money or moneysworth consisting of bonds bills or stock in any of the publick ffunds now subsisting and shall be die to me at the time of my decease share and share alike after the decease of my brother and their father Samuel Sterry and upon condition that my executor pay unto my said brother Samuel Sterry the yearly interest thereof of such third part so devised to my nephew and neice as aforesaid for and during the term of his natural life only also I give and bequeath unto my two neices Ann Sterry and Margaret Sterry daughters of my brother Nuse Sterry the other third part of the whole to be divided as aforesaid of all my personal estate of money or moneysworth consisting of bonds bills or stock in any of the publick ffunds now subsisting and shall be due to me at the time of my decease share and share alike after the decease of my brother and their father Nuse Sterry and aslo upon condition that my said brother Nuse Sterry shall receive for his own use the yearly interest thereof of such third part so devised to my said neices as aforesaid for and during the term of his natural life only and Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said brother Nuse Sterry Trustee and Executor of this my last Will and Testament and also hereby revoke disannul and make void all former Wills and Testaments heretofore made by me either by word of mouth or in writing In witness whereof I the said John Sterry to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper have set my hand and seal this twelfth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty - Jno Sterry - Signed sealed published and declared by the testator John Sterry in the presence of us whose names are subscribed as witnesses and attested by us in the presence of the said testator - James ffisher, John Towne, Dav'd Hammond

This Will was proved at London the seventeenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty before the Worshipful Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth also Doctor of Laws Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Nuce Sterry the brother of the deceased and sole executor named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased being first sworn to administer.
