WILL OF PETER STERRY,
MIDDLESEX, 1724

 

In the Name of God Amen
I Peter Sterry of the parish of St Andrews in the County of Middlesex mariner being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praise be therefore given to Almighty God for the same do make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) first and principally I comend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have fforgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life and my body I comit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and as touching the disposition of all my worldly goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I give and dispose thereof as followeth ffirst I will that all my debts and ffunerall charges be fully paid and satisfying Item I give and devise unto my dear and loving sister Miriam Sterry ffifty pounds of lawful mony of Great Brittain Item I give and devise unto my sister Dorothy Sterry now the wife of Nathaniel Stephens of the City of Dublin in the Kingdom of Ireland Gentleman the sum of ffifty pounds and my mind and will is that the ffifty pounds shall be paid to my (said) sister and that her (said) husband shall not intermeddle or receive the afore(said) legacy but that it shall be to and for the sole use of my (said) sister Dorothy to be disposed and applyed as she shall think fit notwithstanding her coverture Item I give and bequeath unto my loving uncle George Delilers the sum of ffifty pounds of lawful money of Great Brittain Item I give and bequeath unto Mr Robert Handley of the sid (said?) Clerk's Office London Gentleman the sum of twenty pounds to buy him mourning hoping & desiring that he will be of assisting to my executrix hereafter named and as to all the rest and residue if my estate whatsoever as well as personall I give and bequeath unto my aforesaid dear & loving sister Miriam Sterry who I nominate and appoint full and sole executrix of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke disannul and make void all former wills and testaments by me made In witness whereof I th...(?) Peter Sterry to this my last will and testament being contained in one sheet have set my hand and seal the fouth day of october in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty ffour - Peter Sterry - signed sealed published and declared by the (said) Peter Sterry as his last will and testament in the presence of Crs Presgrave, Ralph Howett, Sarah Lloyd

Probatum fuit humor testum vicesimo primo die mensis Januarii anno dni (domini) millimo septingenmo vicesimo sexto(?) coram venl viro Georgis Paul Legum Dcoro surrogato Miriam Sterry exris ___ __ cui c de bono etc iurat

This will was proved on the twenty first day of January 1726(?) before the Venerable George Paul Doctor of Laws Surrogate by the oath of Miriam Sterry executrix to whom administration was granted of all and singular goods chattels and credits she having first been sworn to administer.
