WILL OF ROBERT STERRY,
MASTER MARINER, SURREY, 1849

 

In the Name of God Amen
I Robert Sterry of No 3 Jamaica Row in the Parish of Bermondsey in the county of Surry Master Mariner being of sound mind or memory and understanding but mindful of my mortality do this second day of December in the year of our Lord 1839 make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following ffirst I desire to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named also I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Joanna Joan Sterry all my personal effects whatsoever and wheresoever of what nature kind and quality soever the same may be after payment of my debts funeral expenses and the expence of proving this my will and for her own use and benefit absolutely and I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my said wife Joanna Joan and Elias Wright of 2702 Apollo Buildings Walworth Executrix and Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set and subscribed my hand and seal the day and year first above written - Robert Sterry. Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said testator Robert Sterry as for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto - Thomas Stokes, Ship Builder, 52 Rotherhithe; Thomas Smith, Sail Maker 45 Frances Street Rotherhithe

Proved at London 26th October 1849 before the Worshipful James Parker Deane Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of Joanna Joan Sterry widow the relict one of the executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn duly to administer power reserved of making the like grant to Elias Wright the other executor when he shall apply for the same.

(This is the Will of Robert Sterry youngest child of James Sterry and Patience Bristow on the William Bristow Sterry line. Robert's first wife and child died in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk in 1825 and Robert moved to Bermondsey in Surrey in the same street as his brother William Bristow Sterry. He married his second wife Joanna Joan Wright there in 1827.)
