WILL OF WILLIAM STERRY,
MIDDLESEX, 1776

 

Know all Men by those presents That I William Sterry of the parish of St Mary Islington in the County of Middlesex Do constitute and appoint Martha Gant neice to my wife Patience Sterry lately deceased my lawful Executrix and bequeath to her all my effects real and personal in consideration of her having at my request in the year one thousand seven hundred and sixty four left her place of service to come and live with me and my before mentioned wife But in case I shall at my decease leave to the amount of one hundred pounds after paying all my just debts and the expenses of my ffunerall which expenses I leave to the discretion of the aforesaid Martha Gant It is my desire that the sum of five pounds two shillings may be paid to my sister Anne Turner for mourning But if she shall not at that time be living then to the daughter of the said Anne Turner In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy - Willliam Sterry - Signed sealed and declared by William Sterry as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us - I Wingrove - Lewis Morris - Griffith Williams.

This Will was proved at London the seventh day of february in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six before the Worshipful William Compton Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir George Day Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Martha Gant spinster the sole executrix named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.
