WILL OF ANNE STERRY,
SOUTHWARK, SURREY, 1718

 

Anne Sterry of the parish of St Saviour in Southwark in the County of Surry widow being in health of body and of sound perfect and disposing mind and memory (praise be God for it) for preventing all or any disputes and differences which after my decease may arise or happen touching or concerning my worldly Estate or any part thereof do now dispose thereof as follows that is to say I do hereby give and bequeath the same and every part and parcel thereof being all personal and consisting in ready monies Leases Leaseholds plate rings jewells linnen wollen household goods and wearing apparel or of whatsoever else the same doth or shall consist and all and every my goods chattells and things whatsoever and wheresoever after my funeral charges first paid thereout unto my loving Son in Law John Marson of the said parish of St Saviour Gentleman and him I do hereby make constitute and appoint full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament And doe hereby also revoke countermand and make void all and all manner of former and other Wills Testaments Guiffs bequests and Legacies by me in any wise made given or bequeathed And do hereby declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said Anne Sterry have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of December in the third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God of Great Britain ffrance and Ireland king Defender of the faith xr. Anno Dom 1716 Ann Sterry Signed sealed published and declared by the Testatrix Anne Sterry for and as her last Will and Testament in the presence of John Clayton, Mary Buckaly, Joph Skinner(?)

Probatum fuit huius modi Testamentum apud London coram venerabili viro Georgio Paul Legum Doctore Surrogato Venerabilis et Egregii viri Johannis Bettesworth Legum etiam Doctoris Curia Prerogativa Cantuar. Magistri Custodissive Commissarii legitime constituti decimo die mensis Novembris Anno Domini Millesimo Septingemmo Decimo Octavo Iuramento Johannis Marson Executoris muci indicto Testamento nominati cui commissa fuit administratio omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et heditorum dicti defuncti de bono et fideliter administrando eadem ad Sancta Dei Evangelia jurati

This will was proved at London before the Worshipful George Paul Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Venerable and Distinguished John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commisary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted on the tenth day of November in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and eighteen by the oath of John Marson Executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular goods chattels and credits he having been first sworn duly to administer on the holy Gospel of God.

Note: Anne is the wife of Benjamin Sterry whose will was proved in 1708 on the Southwark Sterry Branch. Benjamin and Anne Sterry share a son/son in law John Marson.
