WILL OF DOROTHY STERRY,
MIDDLESEX, 1731

 

In the Name of God Amen: being in good health both in mind and body I make this my last Will and Testament Imprimis I leave my soul to God that gave it Item I will that when it shall please God to take me my body be buryed by that of my husband in the parish Church of St Giles Cripplegate Item I leave my Grand-daughter Merriam Sterry full and sole Executrix of this my will and the full charge and care of all my writings goods and essetts and also of my funeral and all things relating to me Item I leave to my Grandson peter Sterry one shilling and no more Item I leave give and bequeath to my Grand-daughter Merriam Sterry and Dorothy Stephens all my writings not by Law provided to be otherwide disposed of all my plate household Goods money and books to be equally divided between the said Merriam Sterry and Dorothy Stephens provided that in case Dorothy Stephens should dye before such division is made that her husband shall have no right thereto or to any part thereof nor shall he have any right thereto whilst she lives in any case whatever but in case of the said Dorothys death before the said goods are divided the whole of them shall belong to and be my Grand-daughter Merriam Sterrys and no other person or persons shall have any right title or share therein or to any part of them this is my only will and should any other be produced it is counterfeit witness my hand this sixteenth day of ffebruary anno domini 1723. Probatum fuit huius modi Testamentum apud London sexto die mensis decembrio anno domini millesimo septingentesimo tricesimo primo coram venerabili viro Edwardo Kinaston Legum Doctore Surrogato Venerabilis et Egregii viri Johannio Bettesworth Legum Doctoris Curia Prerogativa Cantuariensis Magistri Custodis sive Commissarii legitime constituti Iuramento Meriam Sterry solutie Executoris in dicto Testamento nominat cui commissa fuit administratio omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et creditorum dicti defuncta de bono et fideliter administrando eadem ad Sancta Dei Evangelia jurat

This will was proved at London on the sixth day of DEcember in the year of the Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty one before the Worshipful Edward Kinaston Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Venerable and Distinguished John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commisary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Meriam Sterry sole Executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular goods chattels and credits she having been first sworn duly to administer on the holy Gospel of God.

Note: Dorothy Sterry is Dorothy Anlaby who married Peter Sterry in 1672 in Rillington, York (Ruardean Sterry Line)
