WILL OF GEORGE STERRY,
CHRIST CHURCH, SURREY, 1735

 

In the Name of God Amen I George Sterry of the parish of Christ Church in the County of Surrey Gentleman being in perfect senses do this twenty second day of January in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty five make and publish this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner following to wit In the first place I desire all my just debts may be fully paid and satisfied and also that I may be interred in a decent manner at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named And afterwards all that the rest residue and remainder of my Estate both reall Copyhold and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind and quality so ever the same shall be I give devise and bequeath unto my Son in Law Isaac Scott his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns for ever and I do apoint him sole Executor of this my Will and revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the day and year first above written. George Sterry - Signed sealed published pronounced delivered and declared by the said Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as witnesses in his presence and at his request - The mark of Sarah Smith, Jas Worthington, Geo: Child

This will was proved at London the first day of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty ffive before the Worshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Isaac Scott Executor in the said Will named to whom admtion was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattells and Credits of the said deceased he being first sworne duly to administer the same.

Note: George may be the son of George Sterry of St Saviour, Southwark whose Will was proved in 1686. See George Sterry in The Sterry Family by Walter Smith, page 201. If so, none of his known children: Elizabeth, Robert, Mary or Ann are mentioned.
