WILL OF JOSEPH LEE STERRY,
OF LONDON, 1682
In the name of God Amen.
I Joseph Lee Sterry of London Dyer Doe make ordaine constitute and appoint this
my last will and testament concerning that competent temporall estate wherewith
it hath pleased God of his rich and free grace (by that silver hand, my tender
and carefull mother) to blesse me with I give and bequeathe as follows But first
I order and appoint that all my relations to whom I give any legacies above
the sum of twenty pounds shall pay the interest thereof att six pounds per cent
to my deare and honoured mother during her naturall life att every of the ffoure
quarters in the yeare by just and equall proportions or otherwise as my said
mother shall desire. I give and bequeath to my beloved sister Mrs Grace Suckley
ffifty five pounds and tenn pounds to my cozen Rowland Hill and ffive pounds
a piece to my cozens John and George and Ffrances Hill. I give and bequeath
to my brother Webb one hundred pounds and one hundred pounds among my cozens
share and share alike And twenty pounds to be laid out in a paire of silver
candlesticks for my said brother and sister Webb moreover my will is that all
the three hundred pounds given as above shall be paid to my brother Webb to
be by him employed for his owne and their proffitts And alsoe that the said
Mr Richard Webb shall pay or cause to be paid to Mrs Ffrances Webb his wife
twelve pounds yearly during her naturall life att every of the ffoure quarters
of the yeare by just and equall proportions And alsoe in all his allowances
to her concerning their children and house or any other allowance he to allow
her as much as if this twelve pounds had never hapned to her according to his
promise to me in which I rest aforesaid. I give and bequeath to my Brother Mr
Peter Sterry the sume of ffifty pounds and to my sister his wife tenn pounds
And my two cozens Peter and Frances one hundred and thirty pounds apiece. But
my will and desire is that the said two hundred and sixty pounds shall be paid
into the hand of my Brother Webb to be by him employed the best way he can till
my two cozens arrive att the age of 21 years And then my brother Webb to pay
to each of my two cozens one hundred and thirty pounds with the interest or
profitt thereof Alsoe if the said money being put out to use shall happen to
be lost my Executor shall beare noe damage But the damage shall be borne equally
by my two cozens Alsoe if one of my said cozens should dye before the age of
21 years then the whole money Principle and Interest shall be paid to my surviving
cozens. I give to my honored uncle Mr N Sterry twenty pounds I give to my honored
brother Mr Underwood ffifteen pounds I give to Mr Collins 40s to buy him a ring
And 20s to Mr Mathew Hutton to buy him a Ring. I allow twenty pounds for my
ffunerall charges and noe more. I give my silver watch and filligrew case and
my guilt spoons to my honoured mother or during her life And afterward I give
the spoons to my sister Webb and my watch to my Brother Webb. I give to Mrs
White my true ffreind ffive pounds I give to Ann Mee 20s Ellinor Dawes 50s and
Hanna my mothers maid 5ty a peece(?) and to Will: 15s. I doe hereby make ordaine
constitute and appoint my honoured uncle Mr N: Sterry and my beloved brother
Mr Richard Webb my sole executors of this my last will and testament. If after
my debts legacies and ffunerall charges be paid there shall be any thing left
my will is that it shall be divided in equall part betweene my sister Webb and
my brother Sterry But his part is to be divided among his children share and
share alike and deposited with the rest in my Bros Webb hand with the rest I
give to my she cozen Birdsey twenty shillings. I give all my lynnen and wollen
apparell that is fitt for them to my two cozens Peter and Ffrances the rest
to the poor. I give all my Truncks, Desks, Books & Papers to my uncle Sterry
and Brother Webb desiring my uncle to take and look over sll my ffathers Papers.
I doe hereby revoke cancele and make void all other wills and testaments whatsoever.

Probatum fuit testamentum suprascriptum apud London cum coram venerabili viro Domino Richardo Loyd militi legum doctore surragato venerabilis et egrigii viri domini Leolius Jenkins militis etiam et Legum Doctoris curia prerogativa cantnavsensis(?) magistri custodis sivi comisarii legitime constituti viresimo octavo die mensis Julii anno domini millesimo sexecutismmo octogesimo secundo iuramento Richardi Webb cuius executorum in huius dico testamento nominat cui commissa fuit administrato omnium et singulorum bonorum iurium et heditorum dicta(?) defuncta de vini et fideliter administrando ad scta dei evangelia iurato. Reservata potestate similile comissorum latcindo(?) Nathanieli Sterry alteri executo in dco testo ____ Cum venerit eadem petiturus etc
This will was proved at London before the Worshipful Richard Lloyd military Doctor of Laws surrogate of the venerable and distinguished Leolius Jenkins also military Doctor of Laws of the Prerogative Court lawfully constituted on the twenty eighth day of July in the year of our lord one thousand six hundred and eighty two by the oath of Richard Webb executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular goods chattels and credits he having been first sworn duly to administer on the holy Gospel of God. Reserved probate relating to the testament to Nathaniel Sterry also executor named in the will.
