WILL OF PETER STERRY,
LONDON, 1703
In the Name of God Amen the nineteenth day of ffebruary anno dni (domini) 1701 and in the fourteenth yeare of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord William the third by the Grace of God of England & Scotland & ffrance and Ireland King & defender of the ffaith xr I Peter Sterry Junr of th parish of St Peter le Poor London being of good sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God therefore doe make and decalre this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following that is to say ffirst and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing for salvation through the only merritts andmediation of my Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to theEarth to be privately buried in the parish church where I shall at my decease omhabit And do for suchworldly estate which it hath pleased God to bestow on me I givee and bequeath as followeth viz. I give devise and bequeath to my dear loving wife Miriam Sterry all and singular my mannors messuages lands tenements and hereditmanets whatsoever which I am seized or possessed of or any person or persons in trust for me and all and singular my jewells rings watches utensils household goods and personall estate whatsover I give and bequeath to my aforesaid wife. Item I order and appoint that my said wife send mourning only to mine and her ffather and mother and uncle and aunt DeLillers and the reason I limitt her is because of the smallnesse of my estate. Item I give to the beadle and porter twenty shillings apeice to buy them mourning and as for my children I doe leave them wholly to the disposall of their mother who am sure will (in case she marry againe) and I doe desire her to take care that they may have such proportion of my estate secured for them as if I were a ___man(?) of London and had done it in this my will. Lastly I make and ordaine my aforesaid & loving wife Miriam Sterry sole Executrix of this my Will declaring this and noe other to be my last Will and Testament. In witnesse whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale the day and yeare above written. Pr Sterry signed sealed and delivered by the testator in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.
Jacob De Lillers, merchant and William Welch of Drapers Wall London Gent doe formally(?) make oath that they were well acquainted with Peter Sterry Junr late of the parish of St Peters the Poor London Gent deceased and with his manner and character of writing these depts. haveing severall times seeen him write and these deponents haveing viewed the writing hereunto annexed dated the nineteenth day of ffebruary 1701 and purporting the late Will and Testament of the said deceased they doe verily beleive the same to be all wrote and subscribed by the said Peter Sterry jun deced (deceased) Jacob Delillers, Wm Welch.

Probatum fuit humor Testum apud London coram venti viro Nathaniele Lloyd Legum Doctore Surrogato ventis et eregii viri Dni Richardi Raines militis Legum etiam Doctoris Curia Prerogativa Cantuar. Magistri Custodis sive Comrii ltime constituti quarto die mensis ffebruarii Anno Dni (Stilo Anglia) Millimo Septingemno tertio juramento Miriam Sterry relicta dicti defunti et Executritis in dicto Testamento nominat cui comissa fuit administrato omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et heditorum dicti desti de bono et fideliter administrand eadem ad Sancta Dei Evangelia jurat
This will was proved at London before the Worshipful Nathaniel Lloyd Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Venerable and Distinguished Richard Raines military Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commisary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted on the fourth day of February in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and three by the oath of Miriam Sterry relict and Executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular goods chattels and credits she having been first sworn duly to administer on the holy Gospel of God.
Note: Peter Sterry of the Ruardean Sterry Branch was born about 1674 at York and buried Jan 3, 1703/4 in the north aisle of St Peter le Poer Church, London. He married Miriam de Lillers May 8, 1699 in St Helen's Church Bishopsgate, London. Miriam was of St Andrew's Church Undershaft, probably daughter or niece of Jacob de Lillers, merchant.
