Newport June 21
Last Saturday night arrived Capt. Samuel Sterry, in the sloop Dolphin, from Hispaniola, which was one of the vessels lately seized there, but acquired with considerable loss. Capt. Sterry informs that absolute orders were given for all English vessels to depart immediately from every port, except that of Cape Nicholas, which is to remain open for certain articles, agreeable to the first stipulation.

Proceedings of the town of Preston
At a town meeting legally warned and held on Monday the 13th day of June, 1774, in the town of Preston. This meeting taking into consideration the dangerous situation of the British colonies in North America, from the principles lately adopted by the Parliament of Great Britain, by inflicting pains and penalties on the town of Boston without a legal trial or even notice of fault ... voted, that if it should be thought best, by said Congress, &c. to break off all trade with Great Britian, &c. as the best means to attain said end; that (although we are not a sea port town, yet) we will charfully deny ourselves of all those asdvantages that arise to us from the said trade ... A true copy, attest Roger Sterry, Town Clerk

AGED MILLIONAIRE TO BE MARRIED
George Sterry, aged 72, and Mrs Lakie, aged 40, the Principals.
NEW YORK, Jan 6 - Formal announcement has been made to their friends that George Sterry, millionaire canal operator and one of the most prominent Presbyterians in the county and Mrs Rebecca Blakie, an eastern school teacher are soon to be married. Sterry is about 72 years old, while Mrs. Blakie is only about 40. Sterry today declined to confirm the report.

Also reported in the the Oklahoma Hobart Republican Issue date 17 Jan 1908: George E Sterry, aged 72m a millionaire coal operaotr, will soon to be married to Miss Rebecca Blaikie, 30, a school teacher of East Orange N.J, according to an informal announcement just made here. Miss Blaikie was a close friend of the millionaire's former wife. Mr Sterry is prominent in the councils of the Presbyterian church, being a member of the board of management of the American Bible society and the director of Princeton Theological seminary.

[Note: Distraught because he could not dissuade his father from marrying a woman 30 years his junior ( a school teacher in Englewood, New Jersey), George, Jr. shot his father to death in May 1908 while the latter was sitting in his office at Pine Street, New York, and then immediately killed himself.]

From the New York Comm. Advertiser, Feb 3
The body of Major Robert Sterry, late American Consul at Rochelle, who was lost from the ship Helen, lately wrecked at Sagharbo, was found on Wednesday of last week. A Providence paper, in announcing the death of Major Sterry, states, that "he was a native of Providence, and only son of Cyprian Sterry, Esq. He was graduated at Brown University, and previous to the late war was an officer in the U.S. Army. For several years past, he had resided at Rochelle, as American Consul for that port. His lamented doom affords an emphatic lesson on the vanity of earthly hopes. He perished in the pride of manhood, (having just completed his 38th year) within view of his native land and while the flush of anticipated joy in rejoining his friends was yet warm upon his cheek."
