"The Shepherd & Dog", a 'Public House' at Out Southgate, Bury St Edmunds

Southgate Pub

Fred Sterry, another son of Robert Sterry and Emily Sage (above), was landlord of this public house in 1891 and 1892. Fred is listed in the 1891 census as landlord of "The Shepherd and Dog" and he appears in Kelly's Directory for Suffolk for 1892 under Bury St Edmunds: Commerial as "beer retailer, Out Southgate". Fred left the pub in 1906 to work on a farm as a horse handler.

In the photo, the brewery which still owned the pub had recently removed all the signs. It will probably never be a public house again.

Parish Church of Blo' Norton, Norfolk

BloNorton Church

We know from parish records that many Sterrys were buried in the graveyard of this ancient parish church. Sadly, however, not a single Sterry headstone can be traced there.
